Beliefs associated with heavy consumption of alcohol among adolescents

Abstract: 

Objectives and method
In this study some different cognitive determinats that lead 136 school students (Media=16.6 años; d.t.=1.17 años) to perfom intensive alcohol consumption (>60 g males and >40 g. females, in 2 hours) are held taking as a model the Theory of Planned Behavior (Ajzen, 1985).
Results
In general, an overestimation of positive consequences arising from this consumption coupled with an underestimation of psychosocial impairment is registered. It also highlights the false perception of control over behavior, although come to recognize their inability to handle specific situations, and the influence exerted through social pressure.
Discussion
These results suggest that focused motivational intervention techniques to increase awareness, environmental reevaluation, autoreevaluation are needed. The aim is to increase the level of awareness of the risks and consequences that may arise from the consumption pattern.
