We have designed an exploratory-descriptive-correlational investigation
in order to know the prevalence and the incidence of steroid anabolic
consumption within the population object of study. The relation between
risk perception and consumption was studied as well. We worked
with a sample of 300 men and women of ages 15 to 45 distributed among
60 sampling points. We inquired also about the reasons for consumption,
abstinence and interruption of substance use in those who were former
consumers. Other variables studied were: age, sex, education level, starting
age of consumption, type of substance used and form of administration.
We obtained quantitative data of adverse side-effects produced
by anabolic steroids and we made a qualitative interpretation of the studied
phenomena as well.
