Abstract:
In this paper, the main family consequences of pathological gambling
are described. Studies about physical and psychological consequences in
gambler’s partners –primarily, females–, in children and, in the case of adolescent pathological gamblers, in parents, are reviewed. Results show
that the family impact of pathological gambling is very important.
However, the results of studies are not conclusive. Finally, clinical implications
of these family consequences for pathological gambling treatment
are commented upon.
Keywords:
Pathological gambling, family, psychological consequences.
